Stay out of trouble

Stand on the tee and check where the trouble is. Is there sand or water short or long of your intended target? Club-up or club-down accordingly to keep your birdie bid alive.

You can only make smart club selections if you know your average distance with each club, not just the distance of shots you hit perfectly.
